How to Help your Teenagers Pass the Final Examination

Logo from Meghna

In most places today, children are preparing for their final examination in school. As a parent, it is not enough that we just watch our child study their lessons and hope that he will pass. This bad habit is usually being practiced especially when their child is already in his teenage years. Unlike toddlers and elementary students whom you can still control, most teenagers hate being reminded. They think that they are now grown-ups and they feel they can stand on their own. To avoid being paranoid about it, here are some suggestions that I think can help:

Assist in making reviewers

If you see them reviewing their notes, you can help him organize his priorities. Ask your child what subject does he find difficult and make it easier for him to review. For mathematics, you can think of using friendly codes to him remember the confusing formulas. For subjects like science that needs memorization of long notes, help him summarize them to lessen the difficulties. You also think of other ways as long as you know how to communicate well with your child.

Avoid all distractions

It is not right that while your child is studying, you are watching your favorite show on TV or listening to a loud music. If she does not have her own study room, find a cool place in your house where she can concentrate enough. Avoid talking about any controversial issue which can make her divert her mind. Having a clean house can also add inspiration. Preparing requires a lot of reading so what she needs is silence and full concentration.

Be the servant

During these times, do not require her to help you doing the dishes or to clean the house. Bear with her for a couple of days. Give her chance to devote her time to review and understand her situation. Serve her with all your heart and remind her to eat healthy foods and sleep on time. Visiting her in her study room once in a while can add confidence that she can make it. Encourage other members of the family to do the same.

Provide her healthy foods

To stimulate her brain functions effectively and to have a good memory, fruits such as avocado provide the best results. Eating raw carrots is also a good idea. This is because of the natural sugar content that comes from them. Researchers have long known that glucose fuels the brain. Moreover, require her to not to eat food with refined sugar such as candies and chocolates. They help our brain reduce memory recall.

Do not panic

The house is not on fire so no need to scream if you see her relaxing a bit. Allow her to peep outside sometimes and breathe some fresh air. Do not add pressure to her by using your voice to force her to study. She needs assistance, not commands. Instead, teach her how to manage her time preparing for the upcoming exams. You child is now a young adult and all she needs is support from you and the rest of the family.

A final examination is just a start of a harder beginning.

Great post. However I believe that since it was written by a teen it is focused only on her needs. I agree with healthy food and no TV distraction. As for helping with reviews, your child needs to be indepandent and should not expect help all the time. If she can effort to spent some time and relax, I think she can afford some time to do the chores. At least simple ones that don't take up too much time.

I am really glad that you like my new templates, it took me 7 long hours to finish that including my other 2 blogs. This is because of the trials I made just to find the best one to fit in.

Anyway, I am the one who should thank you for inspiring me to spread the word that children are wonderful people. I just hope parents realize this.

For parents who want to help their children with their studies, but either does not have the time (of course, it's always better if parents can MAKE TIME for their children), or does not possess the skills to teach academic subjects, I wish to introduce you to a NEW and innovative alternative that has never been afforded parents of old. It's called ONLINE TUTORING. Now, kids can go home immediately after school without need of staying out late for center-based tutoring. Tutorial sessions can be had in the comfort and safety of home. Conducted by qualified tutors, parents can feel at ease knowing that their kids are at home, studying, and learning in a manner they enjoy --- going online. It's convenient, safe, secure, and effective. You can visit www.tutors.ph for more details.
